LedgerBlock allows businesses to create accounts in multiple currencies, including:
- NGN — Nigerian Naira
- USD — United States Dollar
- GBP — British Pound
- EUR — Euro
These accounts provide users with currency-specific account details that can be used to receive and manage funds in the supported currency.
How the Account Works
An account is created for a specific LedgerBlock User and currency.
The account is associated with the User's wallet and provides account details that can be used to receive funds.
The general flow is:
LedgerBlock User
↓
Required KYC Completed
↓
Wallet Created
↓
Select Currency
↓
Create Account
↓
Account Provisioned
↓
Account Details Available
↓
Receive FundsEach account is currency-specific. A User can have separate accounts for different supported currencies.
For example, a User may have:
| Currency | Account |
|---|---|
| NGN | NGN Account |
| USD | USD Account |
| GBP | GBP Account |
| EUR | EUR Account |
The account details provided to the User depend on the currency and the banking infrastructure supporting that currency.
Account Provisioning
Account creation may not always be instantaneous.
When an account is created, the account may initially be in a pending or processing state while LedgerBlock provisions the account.
Once provisioning is completed, the account details become available for use.
Your application should therefore rely on the account status or the relevant webhook notification to determine when an account is ready rather than assuming that a successful creation request means the account is immediately usable.
What Is Needed to Create an Account?
Before creating an account, the following prerequisites must be satisfied.
1. LedgerBlock User
The account must be associated with an existing LedgerBlock User.
If the User does not already exist, create the User first.
Create User API → Create User
2. Required KYC
The User must complete the applicable KYC requirements before an account can be created.
The required KYC level may depend on the type of account and currency being requested.
See:
KYC Guide → Get KYC Tiers & Requirement
Create KYC API → Create KYC
3. Wallet
The User must have a wallet associated with the account creation request.
The wallet provides the underlying balance relationship for the currency account.
See:
Create Wallet API → Create Wallet
4. Supported Currency
The requested currency must be supported by LedgerBlock.
Currently supported account currencies are:
- NGN
- USD
- GBP
- EUR
5. Required Customer Information
The User must have the required identity and customer information associated with their LedgerBlock profile.
The exact information required depends on the currency and account type being created.
Your application should complete the applicable User and KYC setup before attempting to create the account.
Account Creation Flow
A typical implementation follows this sequence:
1. Create LedgerBlock User
↓
2. Complete Required KYC
↓
3. Create Wallet
↓
4. Select Account Currency
↓
5. Create Account
↓
6. Wait for Account Provisioning
↓
7. Receive Account Details
↓
8. Share Account Details With UserCreating the Account
Use the Create Account API to initiate account creation for an existing User and wallet.
Create Account API → [Link to Create Account API]
The API Reference contains the exact endpoint, request parameters, headers, and response structure.
Account Status
After submitting an account creation request, use the returned account status or the applicable webhook to determine the state of the account.
A typical lifecycle is:
PENDING
↓
PROCESSING
↓
READYIf account creation cannot be completed, the account may enter a failed or rejected state depending on the reason.
Your application should handle these states appropriately and avoid presenting an account as available until LedgerBlock confirms that it is ready.
Currency Accounts
LedgerBlock supports account creation for the following currencies:
NGN
NGN accounts provide Nigerian Naira account details for receiving NGN funds.
USD
USD accounts provide United States Dollar account details for receiving supported USD payments.
GBP
GBP accounts provide British Pound account details for receiving supported GBP payments.
EUR
EUR accounts provide Euro account details for receiving supported EUR payments.
The exact account details returned by LedgerBlock depend on the currency and the underlying banking provider.
Using the Account
Once an account is successfully provisioned, the account details can be provided to the User or their counterparties for receiving funds.
Depending on the currency, the account response may contain details such as:
- Account number
- Account name
- Bank name
- Bank code
- Routing information
- IBAN
- Sort code
- Other currency-specific banking details
Only the fields applicable to the specific currency and account provider will be returned.
Your application should use the account details returned by LedgerBlock rather than assuming that every currency uses the same banking fields.
Important Considerations
- An account belongs to a specific User and wallet.
- Complete the required KYC before attempting account creation.
- Only supported currencies can be used.
- Account creation may initially return a pending status.
- Do not treat an account as ready until LedgerBlock confirms successful provisioning.
- Use webhooks where available to receive account-status updates.
- Store the account reference returned by LedgerBlock for subsequent account operations.
- Refer to the API Reference for the exact requirements for each account creation request.
